Find restaurants
that still cook.
Sovereign is a map of restaurants that cook the food they serve, or source it from local artisans.
Every restaurant we feature is checked. We review the claims, suppliers, and receipts behind the profile.

The problem
Somewhere along the way, restaurants got very good at looking different while buying the same food.
Precooked and cubed meats. Pre-pressed burgers. Color-treated tuna. Factory-made sauces. Grill marks that happened somewhere else.
When you’re staring at a $$$ restaurant on OpenTable, it’s hard to know whether you’re paying for the kitchen or the vibe.
We’re here to find the places putting the money into the food.

There are still plenty of places doing the work: making stock, baking bread, rolling pasta, breaking down fish and meat, and working with great farms and local producers.
Those are the places we want to make easier to find.
Who this is for
For people who care what they’re eating and still like going out.
This isn’t a clean-eating app.
Sometimes we eat McDonald’s. Sometimes we want the burger and the martini.
We’re not asking every restaurant to churn its own butter.
We just want to know what we’re buying.
Verification
We don’t take “house-made” at face value.
Restaurants submit what they make, what they buy, and where the rest comes from.
We review supplier information, receipts, and supporting documentation.
Documents stay private. What we verify goes on the profile.
No restaurant can buy a seal.
Every review is done by a person.
The good stuff is still out there.

- The sauce from somebody’s grandmother’s recipe.
- The bakery down the street making the bread.
- The chef who knows which farm the tomatoes came from.
- The butcher, cheesemaker, fisherman, rancher, or pasta maker the kitchen actually chose to work with.
That’s the stuff we want to make easier to find.
On every profile

The seal is the shortcut.
The profile has the details.
Gold
The craft happens here.
The restaurant makes its defining food in-house or sources it from named artisans. Commercial prepared food is incidental, not the operating model.
Silver
A real kitchen, with a few disclosed shortcuts.
Meaningful cooking happens here. Anything that comes in prepared is shown clearly on the profile.
